Message from the Director
In the MSL program at Champlain College, we see the law not as a set of rules but as a set of tools – tools to heighten the career development of managers, strategists, and policy creators in a wide range of fields including business and manufacturing, human resources, health and elder services, and advanced paralegal practice.
We believe that in a world dependent on the rule of law, the law is too important to have only a few specialists understand it. As such, we’ve created our Master of Science in Law to help professionals who are not lawyers think and act confidently in the legal dimensions of their work, prevent needless litigation, and work productively with legal counsel when counsel is necessary.
The Master of Science in Law was originally developed by Woodbury College, long known as the “law and mediation college.” Woodbury introduced its unique brand of pre-law and paralegal education and a trail-blazing training program in alternative dispute resolution over thirty years ago. We’re proud that Woodbury has become a solid part of Champlain College, a college whose long history in the fields of business and paralegal education dovetail perfectly with that of Woodbury. The best of both colleges is now embedded in the Champlain College Master of Science in Law.
We use the online learning format to extend our adult-focused Master of Science in Law far beyond the reaches of our state to professionals seeking legal education and professional development that they can access from their home or workplace. We have crafted our own form of online education that preserves the uniquely personal, collaborative approach to learning that Champlain’s students value. We’re respectful of the experience that adult students bring to the learning process and dedicated to the practical, hands-on education that our students desire. In a world newly rededicating itself to sustainable principles, all MSL students learn managerial leadership skills, alternative dispute resolution, and how to deal with the ethical implications of their professional decisions.
I invite you to learn more about our unique – and uniquely convenient – Master of Science in Law degree program, and to think about the difference it can make to your work, your career, and your world.
